Frog Eye Hat

Published by Shana | Filed under Free, Knitting, Patterns

This pattern is child size. The small will fit a young toddler. The pattern could be modified for an adult. I’d work from the small pattern and do five repeats instead of four (the pattern below is written for four repeats, not five). I haven’t test knit this pattern yet, so please let me know if you come across anything odd.

Supplies

  • Size 5 dpns or size to get gauge
  • Worsted weight green yarn.
  • Darning needle.

Notes

  • Stitch gauge: 1 inch = 4.75 sts x 7 rows on size 5 needles
  • 2×2 ribbing – k2, p2
  • PCB3 – Purl Cable Back 3: slip one to cable needle, hold to back. k2, then p1 from cable needle
  • PCF3 – Purl Cable Front 3: slip two to cable needle, hold to front. p1, then k2 from cable needle
  • PCB4 – Purl Cable Back 4: Slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to back, p2, k2 from cable needle
  • PCF4 – Purl Cable Front 4: Slip 2 sts to cable needle, hold to front, p2, k2 from cable needle

Chart for size small

Instructions

  • Using longtail or other stretchy cast-on method, cast on 80 [88 96] sts. Spread stitches equally across 4 needles.
  • Work 12 rows in a 2×2 rib.

Start of cable pattern.

Crown size small

  • On even rows, k in k sts, p in p sts. You do four repeats of the parenthesis.
  • Rows 1 -4: (p4 [5 6], k2, p8 [9 10], k2, p4)
  • Row 5: (p4 [5 6], k2, p7 [8 9], k4, p3)
  • Row 7: (p4 [5 6], k2, p6 [7 8], PCB3, PCF3, p2)
  • Row 9: (p4 [5 6], k2, p4 [5 6], PCB4, p2, PCF4)

  • Row 19: (ssk, k0 [1 ssk], k2tog)

Pull yarn through remaining stitches. Weave in ends. Finish the hat with a pom-pom.

One Response to “Frog Eye Hat”

  1. Anonymous Says:

Shana is a mad knitting talent; she fixed a sweater my grandmother had made (I can now actually wear it) … and gave me a bonus hat for my son. Thanks Shana, you’re the best.

p.s. I also love the creativity with the photo above. Wood pile, nice touch!
