Knit Monster Baby Booties

Note 2/6/11: I’ve created a new version of this design with improved construction and more sizes (this version runs small). Find the improved monster booties pattern here.
The crochet version of these booties were such a hit that I wrote a pattern for knitting. These booties will fit 0-3 months on a small baby. They are pretty small, so you might want to use larger needles than I did.

Claws
I made the claws by tying French Knots with doubled up yarn. I wouldn’t use beads or buttons, although they would be cute, due to the choking hazard.

Hi,
These look quite funny and I’m sure that they’ll make great success.
Now we only need some mittens.
Have fun,

Thank you so much for sharing this pattern! I saw it on ravelry. I LOVE it because I’ve had a couple skeins of the Moda Dea Dream yarn laying around and I was looking for a project to use the yarn. I’m making two pairs for a friend of mine having twins next month. Thanks again for sharing!!

Not without reworking the whole pattern. You go around the outside and you can’t do that on straights. No time like the present to learn DPNs. They really aren’t as scary as they seem.

This are so cute I wanted to know is there a way to make them on straight needles? I’m still a beginner to knitting so im not familiar with dpn yet.

You can try using larger needles so you have a looser gauge or scaling up the number of stitches. Sorry I am not able to do it for you right now, but you can get it with some trial and error.

I don’t know if this will be answered, it’s been a while since anybody commented, but I was wondering if there is an easy way to make them bigger.
I want to make these with a friend for her babies, but we want to make them for when they are a little older. So is there a way to increase the size of these booties to fit toddlers? I am new to knitting as well, but these are just too cute not to try!

Absolutely awesome! Cute and original idea, but also wearable and practical. Can't wait to try it – am inspired to try a whole monster-themed "gift pack" for babies on the way. Thanks!!

I am new to using dpns (in fact I just use circular needles since I was told they have the same abilities), and in the materials section you put down size 5 dpns. Later on though you say to spread th stitches across 4 dpns. Do I need another set of needles or am I misunderstanding?
November 21st, 2010 at 9:29 pm
It's four needles in size 5, so you only need the one set.

You can use circs too with this. You will find that two shorter circs work really well instead of the 4 dpns. One circular needle will equal 2 dpns.

Those are hilarious!!!! Love them! I would think that brown yard would look very "animal-ish". I think thet are very cute as a gift especially for a little boy!!

Yes, I would, but not for just anyone; I think the parents would have to have a great sense of humor. And I don't know about for a girl, but definitly for boys; maybe in a different color for girls.

I want to make these, but I have abosolutley no experience with knitting/ crocheting other than making a really long string. So who wants to make them for me?

The 5th DPN is used for stitching!!
