With this string…

Published by Shana | Filed under Knitting

My crafting has taken a hard turn toward toward “wedding “. Pretty much everything I work on is aubergine or dusty plum or byzantium  (according to Wikipedia, that’s another word for the color “eggplant”).

Project crafting has never been high on my list. Deadlines, expectations,  and the inability to shove a failing project in the corner and forget about it, suck the life and joy out of creation for me. My creativity is fueled by two forces: “Huh, I wonder if I could….” and “I know no other way to express my love…”. At this point, I’m really hoping #2 is enough to carry me across the finish line.

Here are the fruit of my labor, thus far. Only one piece is completely finished, a shawl for my future mother-in-law (who I’m 99% sure doesn’t know this blog exists, so no surprises ruined. Unless, of course, you all tell her.)

wedding shawl

In exchange for your son, I give you this shawl. Deal?

I’m currently working on one for my mother (who, though she’s aware of this blog, I’m 99% sure she doesn’t read it regularly. Also, unless she’s very thick in the skull, which she isn’t, she already knows I’m making this for her). It’s about a third done.  Both these shawls, as well as the one I made for Mom for my sister’s wedding are from Knitted Lace of Estonia. I should be earning reward points for how often I check that book out from the library. Or anti-rewards points for never actually buying it.

beaded knitting

Those sparkles are beads, and each ones stands as a testament that I love my mother enough to do very, very tedious things for her.

Still at risk of being shoved under the bed to be coincidentally forgotten about, are shrugs for the bridesmaids. This piece of fabric is attempt 2 at making them modest for the ceremony, and if this doesn’t work, it might be time for plan B.

Lace

Pretend this is a shrug being worn by one of my stunning bridesmaids.

Last thing isn’t knitting at all, but instead an attempt at “crafting”. I suck at “crafts”. I cannot turn anything into a wreath. These frames will become chalkboards for signs. In theory. Otherwise, I have a whole bunch of purple and green frames if anyone needs them.

Picture frame chalkboards

There will (hopefully) be a post coming soon where I air my failings to world. Watch for it, and laugh at my expense.
